News Release

On Wednesday night, February 13, 2008, at 7:42pm, the Mini Market Variedades, located at 5201 S. Colony #760 in The Colony, reported that they had just been robbed at gunpoint by an unknown suspect who had fled the scene prior to police arrival.  A general description of the suspect was given by the victim/employee of the Mini Market.

At 11:57pm the same night, a second robbery was reported at the WingStop, located at 4300 F.M. 423 in The Colony.  The victim employee at WingStop also reported being robbed of cash at gunpoint by an unknown suspect who fled the scene prior to police arrival.

The Colony Police Detective James Ward investigated both robberies and later identified a suspect in the robberies as Craig Kainoa Hoopii, 36, of The Colony.  During the course of the investigation, Hoopii admitted his role in the robberies to Det. Ward and physical evidence was later recovered linking Hoopii to the robberies.  The motive for the robberies apparently was to obtain cash to purchase narcotics.

On Friday, February 15, 2008, arrest warrants were issued for Hoopii in connection with the robberies.  He was later arrested on Monday, February 18, 2008, by The Colony Police.

Hoopii was charged with:

  1. Aggravated Robbery of the Mini Market Variedades, a 1st Degree Felony.
  2. Aggravated Robbery of the WingStop, a 1st Degree Felony.

Bond for both charges was set at $250,000.00 each for a total of $500,000.00.
